Continuing Education

Sarasota School of Massage Therapy offers many continuing education courses for Licensed Massage Therapists.

In Florida, 24 hours of continuing education are needed to renew a professional massage therapy license every two years. At least 12 of these hours must be live in a classroom and directly relate to the practice of massage. The next renewal is August 31, 2021 for all Florida LMTs.

SSMT offers a wide range of classes for therapists looking to enhance their level of expertise.

SSMT is committed to operating as safely as possibly during this time. Class size will be limited to allow for distancing between all participants except those practicing on each other.

By enrolling in a seminar at this time, you acknowledge that the safety measures in place my impact student experience. This includes minor background noise from HEPA filtration units, as well as challenges with communication posed by face masks and shields.

SSMT is committed to providing the best experience without compromising safety. We've had several very well received seminars since we reopened for live classes last fall. We hope to see you in a class!

Students, instructors, administration, staff, and all visitors to SSMT will wear a face mask, with a nose-wire, that covers the nose and mouth. Acceptable masks are:

  • Cloth with a pocket for a PM 2.5 filter (cotton, silk, polyester, or a blend)
  • Cotton (2-ply or more) (with or without a filter)
  • Polyproylene or Polyproylene/Cotton (with or without a filter)

SSMT will provide ASTM Level 3 surgical masks and nose wires to those without them.

Gaiters, bandanas, and handkerchiefs are not acceptable face coverings.

Because of the risk of blood clots post-COVID, any student who has recovered from COVID-19 should not receive deep work on their lower limbs for at least four months after recovery, and they should understand there is an ongoing risk of blood clots post-COVID.

Students and instructors will also wear either face shields while in the classroom, except when receiving massage, or they will double mask. Shields will be provided by SSMT for use during the seminar for those who prefer one mask and a shield instead of double masking.

Beginning two weeks after the final dose of a COVID-19 vaccine (2nd dose for Pfizer or Moderna, 1st dose for Johnson and Johnson), vaccinated students and instructors may choose to wear just a single mask (an SSMT-supplied surgical mask or a cloth mask from the list above) when in the classroom, in lieu of double-masking or wearing a face shield. Those wishing to do so must submit a copy of their CDC vaccination card.
