Feel confident giving a safe, therapeutic and firm massage through ALL stages stages of pregnancy and postpartum. This method utilizes a comfortable, secure side-lying position to avoid undue pressure on a growing abdomen and the lower back. Mother's are completely supported by pillows, keeping hip, knee and ankle on the same level to avoid pulling on the sacroiliac joint and to maximize blood and lymph circulation. Side-lying is the safest for mother and baby, and it educates the client about the ideal sleeping position.
Day 1- Nuturing the Mother Spa Pregnancy Massage
9:00 am- 6:00 pm - includes lunch 1-2 pm and breaks between
Students describe and recognize the variety of possible birth experiences.
Students will learn and demonstrate proper techniques for pregnancy massage.
Students will learn and demonstrate draping for safe pregnancy massage.
Students will learn and demonstrate stretching techniques for pregnancy.
Students will recognize pressure points that are contraindicated in pregnancy.
Students will recognize common discomforts of pregnancy and learn specific techniques for alleviating the discomforts.
Day 2 9:00 am - 6:00 pm Includes lunch 1-2 pm and breaks
Students will learn about postpartum care, cultural norms and core "Nurturing the Mother" child and family strengthening principles.
Students will learn how to proceed upon identifying both critical and general postpartum conditions
Students will learn the anatomy of the female reproductive system.
Students will be able to describe the physiology of pregnancy by trimester.
Students will learn about and demonstrate proper massage techniques for each trimester of pregnancy and for the postpartum period.
Students will learn and describe cautions and contraindications for pregnancy and postpartum massage.
