Many people today are experiencing the effects of a traumatic experience (auto accidents, natural disasters, war, sexual abuse, etc)
and as Licensed Massage Therapists, we are bound to encounter clients
who are recovering from such. Joni has devoted the last three years at
Naropa Univeristy in Colorado where she is graduating with a Masters
Degree in Somatic Psychology. The focus of her work there has been
with trauma survivors and now is bringing her expertise to the
profession of Massage Therapy, and back home to Florida, specifically.
Knowing the signs and symptoms to assess in our clients is the first step in treatment. This weekend begins by defining trauma, it's effects on the nervous system, and the impact on the whole being. Believing in a holistic approach to treatment, Joni has combined experiential activities with lecture/discussion that will give participants an opportunity to explore their own reactions to trauma as it is believed that to know one self first is imperative to deepening into trauma recovery work with clients. As Massage Therapists there is opportunity to work within the scope of practice and utilize techniques that will support clients in their healing process of body, mind and spirit. These techniques will be practiced during the weekend.
