Zone Reflexology: Introduction to Foot Reflexology

Friday evening, January 27, 6-9pm:
1. Introduction to the Reflexology zones and the map of the feet: how to read the map of the feet in it’s general correspondence to the anatomy of the body.
2. Foot Massage: preparing the feet before the reflexology portion of the session. Demonstration and guided practice in partners: techniques of petrissage, cross fiber and friction all designed specifically for the feet to create a luxurious and deeply relaxing foot massage.
Saturday, January 28, 10am - 5pm:
1. Orientation and introduction to reflexology theory / effects and contraindications
2. Zone therapy- understanding the reflex zones as energy pathways
3. Reading the map of the feet: specific focus on the spine, bones, muscles, body cavities and reproductive organs as they are represented on the feet. Tenderness of the foot as an indication of body imbalance.
4. Demonstration of spinal reflex techniques. Practice on self.
5. The 5 basic reflexology techniques: thumb walking, finger walking, flexion, rotation and hook and back up. Practice in partners with refinement.
Sunday, January 29, 10am - 5pm:
1. Reading the map of the feet: Function and specific location of digestive, urinery, respitory and circulatory systems.
2. Foot Massage: Review, additional techniques and refinement.
3. Reflexology treatment: demonstration of general session using the 5 basic reflexology techniques and guided practice in partners.

Bio: Elaine Hyams Koelmel, LMT NYS Lic#0001976, Florida Massage License #MA 62554, NCBTMB ID#590752, ARCB Nationally Certified Reflexologist.
Elaine was faculty at the Swedish Institute of Massage, NYC for 8 years in Massage and Reflexology. She created the 200 hour Reflexology Certification Programs for The Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, NY, The New York Open Center and Ben Benjamin’s Touch Therapy Institute in Boston. These programs are still being taught by her students. Elaine has been practicing and teaching Massage and Reflexology since 1977 and has an innovative and intuitive approach.
This course is the first in a series of CE courses at SSMT in Reflexology.
